Shirea de Freitas is an Occupational Therapist working in the Paediatric and Medico-legal field performing Medico-Legal work, Functional Capacity Evaluations, Vocational Rehabilitation and has a special interest in Neurodevelopmental Therapy (NDT) and Sensory Integration (SI).
She has been an Occupational Therapist since 2000 graduating from the University of Pretoria. She has gained clinical experience in working in Government hospitals in South Africa, as well as working for the NHS in the United Kingdom and working in private practice in South Africa since 2005.
Shirea views highlights of her career as completing the Basic Bobath Neurodevelopmental Therapy (NDT) course, the Advanced Baby NDT course (enabling her to work with neurological conditions and children with Cerebral Palsy), completing 3 out of the 4 Sensory Integration training courses, and being a certified WorkWell Functional Capacity Evaluation trained therapist since 2010. Shirea has completed training certified by the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners with a certificate of proficiency in the AMA Guides to Evaluate Permanent Impairment – 6th Edition (2012).
She is an active member of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), Occupational Therapy Association of South Africa (OTASA), South African Medico Legal Society (SAMLS), Medical Protection Society (MPS) and the Institute for Occupational Therapists in Private Practice (INSTOPP).
Shirea describes her strengths as being restorative, attentive to the individual, a life-long learner, creatively strategic and enjoying healthy competition.
